Visitors to Singapore are forgiven if they think they’ve not arrived in the downtown area, judging by the absence of traffic congestion and customers at the malls, cinemas and restaurants. The reason is Singapore is a pioneer in road pricing and people are reluctant to travel during the times when road pricing is in operation. Motorists are unhappy of course but the authorities are of the view that it’s better to impose road pricing on more roads now to forestall a worse scenario in the future. Motorists are not convinced.
