Singapore democracy: lip service for 45 years

On their National Day, Merdeka Day or Independence Day, most political leaders in the region brag of the progress they’ve made in democracy.

Except in Singapore.

This despite the fact that Singapore ministers have been pledging to “build a democratic society” every National Day for the past 45 years,

Now, by any yardstick, 45 years is a long time, spanning almost half a century.

Persisting with the sham every National Day is the height of absurdity that somehow escapes the political “leadership”.
