Gunning for GRC? Why not, man?
Cut through all the mumbo-jumbo about the Group Representation Constituency’s ostensibly noble objective of ensuring minority representation, you will see the real reason and that is to crimp the opposition.
But now it appears that the ruling party, the People’s Action Party, is jittery over the unthinkable that can happen. Perhaps this has something to do with the unprecedented events that have engulfed the Middle East. The loss of even one GRC would be catastrophic in the PAP’s lexicon.
So Potong Pasir MP Chiam See Tong should dismiss accusations about wanting to leave a legacy as preposterous.
The opposition gunning for a GRC after seeing candidates enter Parliament by the back door through walk-overs?
Why not? Go for it!
People are fed up of watching one dominant party bossing around in Parliament.
