PAP Arrogance: its A is for Arrogance

*****************************************************************
“Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men.” LORD ACTON

THE A in PAP stands for ARROGANCE.

As defined by the dictionary “arrogance” means “an offensive display of superiority or self-importance; overbearing pride.”

Everybody knows that the People’s Action Party (PAP) is arrogant, and everybody talks about PAP arrogance. The opposite of “arrogance” is “humility” which PAP certainly lacks, and lacks in large measure.

To challenge for proof of its arrogance is in itself testament to its arrogance.

This is why people say PAP is arrogant:

1. PAP thinks it’s a know-all, brushing aside public opinion as worthless eg. the rising cost of living (an issue at the last General Election), influx of foreign workers, escalating prices of housing

2. Harassment and persecution of the opposition over even minor matters like sale of a political party’s newsletter.

3. Its deplorable human rights record, it explained to the United Nations, is due to Singapore’s special circumstances, our multi-cultural diversity, a laughable claim. Gaddafi of Libya would toast to that.

4. PAP claims that a vote for the opposition could lead to a freakish result. This is a massive insult not only to the opposition parties but also to Singaporeans. We were not born yesterday.

5. Over robust and arrogant replies bordering on bullying to opinion pieces in the local media.

I could go on but I don’t wish to be tiresome.

Let’s not bury our heads in the sand.

That many now speak up passionately is a good sign in building up a politically mature electorate. Those who have a thin skin should not enter politics or retire.
